Rhubarb Crisp


4 1/2 cups rhubarb cut into 1" pieces
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
Grease 9" by 9" pan
Spread fruit over pan

Topping
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup butter or margarine(melted)

Combine oats, flour, and sugar. Mix the melted butter thoroughly with dry ingredients. Spread over rhubarb and bake at 350 F for 30-40 minutes or until fruits are soft.

6-8 apples, peeled, cored, sliced

2 cups oats
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/4 tsp salt
1/4-1/2 cup oil OR melted margarine or butter
1 cup whole wheat or white flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 cup water

Combine oats, flour, wheat germ, salt and sugar. Mix the oil and water together and mix thoroughly with dry ingredients. Spread over sliced apples and bake at 350 F for 30-40 minutes or until apples are soft.




From a newspaper

1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup butter or margarine
6 cups apples, pared, cored, sliced thin
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup water
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp lemon rind

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, salt, sugar and oats. Cut in butter or margarine until crumbly. Place apples in a bowl, combine cinnamon, water and lemon juice and rind and sprinkle over apples until well coated. Put apple mixture in 8 or 9 inch square pan. Sprinkle flour mixture on top. Bake 45 minutes until golden brown

Recipe I use for a 9 x 13 pan

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 cups Quick Oats
3/4 cup Brown Sugar
3/4 cup Melted margarine

If using 4 recipes of fruit in 3 inch steamer pans, use 3 recipes of topping.

Apple Crisp

Apple Crisp 

8-10 apples, peeled, cored, sliced
2 Tbsps. whole wheat or white flour
2 Tbsp. Ground Cinammon

Topping without Oats

  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 1 stick(1/2 cup)unsalted butter, cold and diced


Topping with Oats(revised April 9, 2023)

1 1/8 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/8 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup butter or margarine


Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, salt, sugar and oats. Melt margarine.  Stir into dry ingredients until crumbly. Work the mixture with your hands until no big lumps remain. Place apples in a bowl, combine with cinnamon and flour until apples are well coated(see apple crisp recipe above). Put apple mixture in a 9 x 13 inch pan. Sprinkle flour/butter mixture on top. Bake 45 minutes until golden brown.

7 apples @95 each = 665
1 cup flour (130 gr) = 455 cal
1 cup oatmeal (1/2 cup = 150 cal, 100 gr=380) = 300
1/2 cup sugar = 360 cal
1/2 cup margarine =818 cal
1/4 cup gerry's granola
4 marshmallows cut up @ 90/4 marshmellows 28g = 90
total = 2688 cal
into 9 by 13 = 117 sq inches
per sq inch 25 cal or 100 cal for a 2" by 2" square
